OOCL has outlined the increased cost of fuel for its services in the transatlantic trade.
OOCL said it will institute a low-sulfur bunker charge on cargo moving between Europe and North America on Jan. 1.
Next year, new regulations go into effect that require fuel with a maximum of 0.1-percent sulfur, instead of 1 percent, be used in emission control areas along the coasts of the U.S., Canada and parts of Europe.
OOCL said the charges will be:
- $65 per TEU and $130 per FEU moving to or from Europe and the U.S. East Coast, U.S. Gulf Coast and MexicoEurope to/from USEC/Gulf and Mexico
- $110 per TEU and $220 per FEU moving to or from Europe and the U.S. West Coast
- $75 per TEU and $150 per FEU moving to or from Europe and Canada
