US COMMERCE FINES MASS. SHIPPER FOR ILLEGAL EXPORTS
The U.S. Commerce Department’s Bureau of Export Administration has imposed a $25,000 civil penalty on NEC Technologies of Boxborough, Mass., for exporting automated fingerprint identification machines in violation of the Export Administration Regulations.
On five occasions, NEC exported its systems to Argentina, Peru, Singapore, South Africa and Taiwan without the required Commerce export licenses. The Export Administration also said NEC “made false and misleading statements of material” on its shipper’s export declarations for these shipments.
The agency said it has suspended $10,000 of the $25,000 fine.
