Panama Canal improves tow tracks
The Panama Canal Authority (ACP) said Wednesday it is renovating the locomotive tow tracks at the northeast lane of the waterway’s Gatun Locks.
The tow tracks enable locomotive units or “mules”, to move alongside transiting vessels, affixed by wire cables, to maintain a ship’s position during passage through Canal locks.
The ACP said the improvements to the tow tracks should be completed within 13 days and that both lanes will remain in service with no delays in transit capacity anticipated.
