U. OF MIAMI, RYDER AND IBM LAUNCH LOGISTICS RESEARCH CENTER

The University of Miami announced on Monday the establishment of the M. Anthony Burns Center for Advanced Supply Chain Management, a new logistics research facility that is the result of a collaboration between the University, Ryder System, Inc., and IBM.

Burns, the center’s namesake, is a former Ryder chairman who retired earlier this year.

“Our mission is to advance the business of supply chain management,” said M. Lewis Temares, dean of the college of engineering and vice president for information technology. The college of engineering will oversee the interdisciplinary logistics center with assistance from the University’s school of business.

Ryder, the founding sponsor of the center, and IBM will provide expertise in supply chain management for the new venture, described as “a fusion of academicians, industry experts and consultants.”

The inaugural seminar will be held Jan. 22-24, 2003, at a conference center in the Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables, Fla. [ /**/
