China Southern, Menlo sign North American distribution deal

China Southern Airlines said it has reached an agreement with Menlo Worldwide Forwarding to help distribute cargo arriving in Chicago to the rest of North America.

Guangzhou-based China Southern operates two 747-400 freighters, one of which rotates twice per week between Chicago/Shanghai/Shenzhen, said China Southern spokesman Jeff Ruffolo.

China Southern has used the services of freight forwarder Alliance Airlines to move goods to and from O'Hare International Airport, but now will also rely on Redwood City, Calif.-based Menlo, part of the CNF transportation conglomerate, Ruffolo said.

Further discussions will focus on customer service, network support, charter service and sharing cargo information.
