North Carolina ports partially reopening today
Although the U.S. Coast Guard is not yet allowing traffic, the North Carolina State Ports Authority will partially reopen its two ports today.
Hurricane Ophelia hit north of the Port of Wilmington, the primary container port, and the port authority this morning instructed employees to report for work as usual at 8 a.m.
At the Port of Morehead City, which is north of Wilmington, employees are supposed to report to work at noon.
Port officials will be conducting landside activities and assessing any damage from the hurricane. The Coast Guard needs to assess the condition of ship channels before opening the ports to vessel traffic.
