Yusen acquires European automotive logistics provider

Third-party provider Yusen Logistics has purchased Transfreight Automotive Logistics Europe for an undisclosed sum in an effort to expand its vehicle transport support and operations offerings, the company said in a statement.

NYK Group subsidiary Yusen Logistics has acquired Derby, United Kingdom-based vehicle transportation and services provider Transfreight Automotive Logistics Europe, according to a statement from the company.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Yusen said the purchase of Transfreight’s complimentary regional network will allow the company to expand its European automotive transport support and operations offerings.
The combined infrastructure will add key network consolidation points in Western Europe, as well as multi-modal possibilities running between Northern and Southern Europe, the company said. In particular, the acquisition increases Yusen’s footprint in Northern France, an area in which several automotive suppliers and OEMs are located.
“This business offers an excellent fit for Yusen Logistics, with shared customers and service offer, but with a regional focus which complements Yusen’s infrastructure,” Ian Veitch, CRO Yusen Logistics Europe, said of the acquisition. “Customers from both our companies will benefit from the combined organization’s industry expertise and broad based supply chain solutions, as well as new team members.”
Based in Tokyo, Yusen Logistics currently handles more than 1.3 million tons of materials annually on behalf of leading OEMs and tiered suppliers in Europe.
