Wan Hai studies launch of second Pacific loop

Taiwan’s Wan Hai Lines is considering the launch this year of a second transpacific loop.

The plan is “under study,” an official at the carrier’s head office in Taiwan said. If the additional service is confirmed, Wan Hai will operate it in partnership with other carriers, added the official, who declined to name the partners.

Last year, Wan Hai upgraded the tonnage of its “China Trans-Pacific Service” by employing ships of about 2,700-TEU capacities. For the transpacific trade, the carrier also ordered five 4,250-TEU containerships that are due to be delivered in 2005 and 2006.
