HANJIN TO EXPAND TERMINAL IN SEATTLE
Hanjin Shipping has signed an agreement with the Seattle port authority to expand and modernize its container terminal in the port.
Hanjin said that it has renewed its 15-year contract with the port authority and amended the original agreement signed in 1986.
Under the revised agreement, facility operation is set at 10 years, with a five-year option, and about $50 million will be invested by 2004, Hanjin said.
By 2004, the terminal area will have been expanded to 88 acres. The current 571-meter berth will be lengthened to 610 meters, which will allow the simultaneous handling of two 5,000-TEU containerships.
In addition, a new administrative building, new truck gates, yard improvements, and three post-Panamax size cranes will be installed.
