U.S. CUSTOMS MAKES CHANGES TO RLF PROTOTYPE TWO
U.S. Customs will no longer accept line release entries as part of its Remote Location Filing Prototype Two.
“This prohibition is necessary to reflect the fact that RLF transactions must possess a national permit and line release programs require a local permit,” Customs said.
The agency has also simplified the application process for participation in the prototype to a “one-step procedure that will consolidate information collection and expedite application processing at Customs headquarters.”
Eligibility to participate in the RLF Prototype Two requires the filer to provide electronic information to Customs. In specific, the filer must electronically provide entry, entry summary, invoice information using the Electronic Invoice Program, and payment of duties, fees and taxes through the Automated Clearinghouse.
Customs’ RLF Prototype Two started in January 1997 and has undergone other changes over the years. The agency said current RLF filers neither need to re-apply to Customs to continue participation in RLF Prototype Two nor submit additional port applications.
