SWISSGLOBAL TO FLY FREIGHTER TO SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA AIRPORT
SwissGlobalCargo, the joint venture of Swiss forwarder Panalpina and
Swissair parent company SAirLogistics, said it will begin flying a B747-200 freighter into
a former U.S. Air Force base 50 miles northeast of Los Angeles.
SwissGlobal, which hopes to create an integrator-like network for
delivering time-definite heavyweight air freight shipments worldwide, will
serve the Southern California Logistics Airport once a week from Hong Kong, starting on
Monday.
The new service marks the first major expansion announced by
SwissGlobal, which was formed this spring by Panalpina and SAirGroup. SwissGlobal is the
first major carrier to fly to the Southern California Logistics Airport.
