Thompson rejoins Crowley maintenance and repair

Tommy Thompson, a specialist in Crowley Maritime Corp.'s equipment maintenance and repair department for seven years, has returned to the company as director of maintenance and repair.

Thompson will work from Crowley's headquarters in Jacksonville and will report to Rob Grune, senior vice president and general manager, Puerto Rico and Caribbean, as well as John Hourihan, senior vice president and general manager, Latin America.

A company statement said Thompson is charged with introducing best practices and new technologies, and will conduct a process review to improve existing operations and implement improved efficiencies. He will also support the company's new build equipment program, which included the acquisition of 929 new 40-foot refrigerated high-cube containers, 1,453 new 45-foot and 102-inch-wide containers, and 1,4353 chassis during 2007.

Thompson has more than 40 years of maritime and intermodal experience. After his initial stint with Crowley, he held a similar maintenance and repair position with Dole Fresh Fruit Co.
