Port of Halifax container volume down 3% in 2004
The port of Halifax, Nova Scotia's container volumes decreased 3 percent to 525,553 TEUs during 2004, compared to 541,650 TEUs in 2003.
Imports decreased 4.8 percent to 259,711 TEUs in 2004, from 272,895 TEUs. Exports were down 1.1 percent at 265,842 TEUs, from 268,755 TEUs.
The port said 2004 was the fifth consecutive year that more than a half-million TEUs were shipped through Halifax.
“We had a steady year with cargo and foresee growth on the horizon for both main line and feeder services, including the resumption of the Boston area feeder service in January,” said Patricia McDermott, vice president of marketing at Halifax Port Authority.
