U.S. CUSTOMS SEEKS COMMENT ON RECONCILIATION PROTOTYPE
U.S. Customs is requesting comments from the industry to a survey on the Reconciliation Prototype to evaluate and possibly revise or expand the prototype.
The Reconciliation Prototype allows importers to pay duties on the estimated value of goods at the time of entry and then follow up 12 to 15 months later with a more accurate figure. The program was developed in 1998 as part of the 1993 Customs Modernization Act.
Survey responses are to be received by July 10. For information, contact Shari McCann at (202) 927-1106 or Don Luther at (202) 927-0915. Information is also available on Customs' Web site, at http://www.customs.gov/recon .
