COAST GUARD SEEKS TO FILL VACANCIES IN MERPAC

The U.S. Coast Guard is seeking appplications to fill six positions on its Merchant Marine Personnel Advisory Committee.

MERPAC provides advice and makes recommendations to the Coast Guard on issues related to training, qualifications, licensing, certification, and fitness of seamen serving in the U.S. merchant marine. Members of the committee serve three-year terms, and not more than two consecutive terms. The next terms start January 2002.

MERPAC, which is chartered under the Federal Advisory Committee Act, meets twice a year: once at Coast Guard headquarters in Washington and at another location around the country.

Applications should be received at the Coast Guard by Aug. 31. The applications are available on the Web at http://www.uscg.mil/hg/g-m/advisory/index.htm, or contact Mark Gould at (202) 267-0229.
