MORAN RESIGNS FROM FMC

The U.S. Federal Maritime Commission said Commissioner John A. Moran has resigned from the agency, effective April 15.

Moran was nominated to serve as commissioner on Oct. 15, 1998. He was confirmed by the Senate on Oct. 21, 1998 and sworn in on Oct. 27, 1998.

Moran joined the agency about two weeks after the 1998 Ocean Shipping Reform Act was signed into law. FMC Chairman Harold J. Creel Jr. said Moran’s experience in congressional and legislative affairs helped agency implement OSRA.

Prior to serving with the FMC, Moran was vice president of legislative affairs for the American Waterways Operators. Before that, he was a partner with law firm Alcalde & Fay. He also worked as a staffer for the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation.

Moran will continue his work in the maritime and transportation matters at the Washington law office of Jones Walker.
