BUSH PRESSES CONGRESS FOR TRADE NEGOTIATING AUTHORITY

President Bush has sent a letter to members of Congress urging them to enact presidential trade negotiation authority.

The presidential authority expired in 1994, President Bush noted. “We can no longer sit still while our trading partners move ahead without us.”

Bush said he places enactment of the trading authority “at the top of my trade legislative agenda.”

“U.S. trade promotion authority tells the world that the president and Congress are united at the negotiating table seeking to strike the best possible deals for our country,” Bush said.
