DELAYS FORCE ACL TO DIVERT HALIFAX CARGO VIA U.S. PORTS

Frustrated by rail problems at the port of Halifax, Atlantic Container Line said that it will continues to divert cargoes to U.S. ports until operations in the Canadian port improve.

“The looming prospects of cost escalations and rail service problems have significantly hurt Halifax during the past year and have forced Atlantic Container Line    to divert over 10 percent of its cargo to U.S. ports,” a spokesman for the transatlantic carrier said.

Atlantic Container Line announced that it will switch its

roll-on/roll-off and container service to the Ceres Fairview Cove terminal in Halifax, effective mid-April. The carrier already moves cargo via the Fairview Cove terminal for shipments carried under slot charter on the PAX transatlantic service of the Grand Alliance.

Atlantic Container Line said that it is still uncertain regarding its future volume through the port of Halifax.
