NYK APPOINTS NEW DIRECTORS, EXECUTIVE OFFICERS
Nippon Yusen Kaisha said it has promoted several directors and executive officers, and reported that several directors will step down from present posts.
Directors stepping down, effective June 27, are Chairman Jiro Nemoto, who will become honorary chairman of NYK; executive vice president/executive officer Kuniaki Shirakuma (NYK senior advisor); executive vice president/executive officer Kazuhira Kamiya (NYK corporate auditor); senior managing director/executive officer Kin-ichi Hirayama (president, Tokyo Senpaku Kaisha Ltd.); senior managing director/executive officer Masaru Yamamoto (NYK advisor, head of Maritime Technology Institute preparation committee and marine technology director of Global Ocean Development Inc.); managing director/executive officers Takehiko Kakei (vice president, Shinwa Kaiun Kaisha Ltd.); and director/executive officer Shin-ichi Miwa (NYK advisor on international finance).
Takao Manji, chief executive officer of NYK Shipmanagement Pte. Ltd., will be promoted to managing director. He will retain his position as executive officer.
Other promotions are Tadatoshi Mamiya, from senior managing director to executive vice president; managing directors Yoshihiro Uesu, Yukio Ozawa and Koji Miyahara will become senior managing directors; and directors Takahiro Ota, Koichi Aoki and Hiromitsu Kuramoto will become managing directors. The directors are also executive officers and will retain those positions.
Besides creating the position of honorary chairman for Nemoto, NYK also introduced a system of appointing directors of its affiliates as NYK executive officers.
'NYK hopes to further solidify its cooperative relationships with it subsidiaries, encourage group companies to seek a deeper understanding of its management policies, and obtain suggestions regarding management from affiliates that may have different ideas,' the company said.
Named executive officers, effective April 1, are: Koichi Inoue, general manager, NYK head office Technical Development Group; Tsuguo Yamada, general manager, Group Accounting Group; Susumu Kikuchi, chairman, NYK Line (China) Co. Ltd. and NYK Logistics (China) Co. Ltd.; Shuichi Tsuji, general manager, Capesize Bulker Group; Motoo Igawa, general manager, Forest Products Group; Hiroshi Sugiura, deputy general manager, Planning Group; Masamichi Morooka, president, NYK Line (North America) Inc.; Naoki Takahata, general manager, Finance Group; Koichiro Shoji, president, Japan Marine Science Inc.; Shinji Kobayashi, president, NYK-Hinode Line Ltd.; Tetsufumi Otsuki, general manager, Planning Group; Takeshi Matsunaga, director, NYK Global Bulk Co. Ltd; and Takatake Naraoka, general manager, Container Trade Business groups No. 1 and No. 2.
