MAERSK SEALAND UP AND RUNNING
A.P. Moller, parent of Maersk Line, said Saturday that has officially
taken over the international liner business of Sea-land Service Inc.
Maersk acquired Sea-Land from parent company CSX Corp for $800 million.
Maersk Sealand is the new operating entity for the combined lines, which has
a fleet of more than 250 vessels with about 600,000 TEUs of combined capacity. The new
shipping line is twice as large as the nearest competitor. The new company has 325 offices
and 10,000 employees in more than 100 countries. Maersk Sealand also has a new web site: www.maersksealand.dk
