North Carolina ports report record fiscal year
The North Carolina State Ports Authority had record revenues and its largest profit in 15 years in the fiscal year ended June 30. It expects similar performance in the fiscal year just begun.
The authority said there was a 24 percent increase in container moves at the Port of Wilmington and a 13 percent increase in other sorts of general cargo.
The Port of Morehead City said record natural rubber imports contributed top a 19 percent increase in breakbulk cargo tonnage over fiscal 2005.
Together, both ports handled 5.8 million tons, up from 5.4 million tons in fiscal year 2005.
Revenues for the year were $46.9 million, a 32-percent increase over the previous year.
