Nippon adds 747-400

Nippon Cargo Airlines received delivery of the first of four 747-400 new production freighters from Boeing. Japan’s only all-cargo airline ordered three planes last year and another one in April at a cost of about $200 million a copy.

Nippon Cargo’s fleet comprises six 747-200s, four 747-200 converted freighters and one 747-100 conversion. The 747-400 can carry 120 tons, 25 more tons than the 747-200.

Nippon and other cargo operators are beefing up their fleet capacity to take advantage of booming international trade with Asia.
