FMC HOLDS CLOSED MEETING ON CONTROLLED CARRIER ISSUES
The U.S. Federal Maritime Commission will hold a closed meeting in Washington on Oct. 2 to address controlled carrier issues.
The controlled carrier rules were initially developed by the United States to isolate and regulate the activity of the Soviet bloc's ocean carriers during the Cold War. The FMC has recently proposed imposing the controlled carrier rules on China, which has implemented regulations for maritime transportation that the FMC believes discriminate against U.S. and non-Chinese carriers and maritime interests.
