First Evergreen group ship complies with IMO security code
The 1,164-TEU “Uni Active,” owned by Evergreen International Storage & Transportation Corp., a subsidiary of the Evergreen group, is the first vessel registered in Taiwan to have complied with the International Maritime
Organization’s International Ship and Port Facility Security code.
The ship received an international ship security certificate issued by China Corp. Register of Shipping on Oct. 1.
The IMO’s International Ship and Port Facility Security code becomes mandatory on July 1, 2004.
“By then, Evergreen will have to navigate 103 ships through the certification process,” a spokesman for the group said. Evergreen is working closely with China Corp. Register of Shipping, with the American Bureau of
Shipping and with the United Kingdom’s Maritime & Coastguard Agency.
