Northrop to supply bridge systems for new Grimaldi ro/ro vessels
Northrop Grumman Corp. has received orders to supply integrated bridge systems for five new roll-on/roll-off vehicle carriers being built for Grimaldi Group Naples by Croatian Shipbuilding Corp. at its Uljanik shipyard in Pula, Croatia.
The ships will be fitted with a complete suite of navigation and communication systems to be supplied by Northrop Grumman's Sperry Marine business unit in conjunction with Compania Generale Telemar. The five multipurpose deep sea ro/ro carriers, with 2,500 lane meters of cargo space, will be used primarily for transporting new cars and vehicles, with additional container capacity on the weather deck. They are scheduled for delivery between 2008 and 2009.
Grimaldi operates one of the world's largest fleets of modern ro/ro vessels, mostly serving Europe, West Africa and South America. The company is also expanding its marine terminal business with major new facilities around the world.
