Executive Moves: IATA, SeaCube, Kuebix and BIMCO

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) appoints chairman of board of governors, while SeaCube and Kuebix both name new chief executive officers, and BIMCO elects president.

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) appoints chairman of the IATA board of governors, SeaCube and Kuebix both name new chief executive officer, and BIMCO elects president.

   The International Air Transport Association (IATA) appointed Goh Choon Phong, chief executive officer of Singapore Airlines, as chairman of the IATA board of governors for a one-year term. Goh succeeds Willie Walsh, CEO of International Airlines Group, who will continue to serve on the board of governors and the chair committee. Goh joined Singapore Airlines in 1990, and was appointed CEO in 2011. In addition, Goh was president of the 68th IATA AGM, which was held in Singapore in 2011, and has served on the IATA board of governors since then.
   IATA’s board of governors also agreed to appoint Akbar Al Baker, CEO of Qatar Airways, to serve a one-year term as chairman of the IATA board of governors from June 2018, following Goh’s term.

   SeaCube Container Leasing Ltd. has named Robert Sappio as CEO. Sappio joined SeaCube as chief operating officer in 2014. Prior to SeaCube, Sappio was president of the Americas region for Rickmers-Linie and managing director for Alvarez & Marsal. He also spent nearly 30 years at APL before working at Alvarez & Marsal.
   SeaCube also nominated Hugh MacDiarmid as chair of the board. MacDiarmid has been a director of the company since 2013, and was interim CEO for the past four months. He has also served as chair of Terrestrial Energy Inc.; president and CEO of Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd.; president and CEO of Laidlaw Transit Inc.; and executive vice-president, commercial of Canadian Pacific Railway.

   Kuebix appointed David Lemont CEO. Lemont previously served as CEO at various companies, including Currensee, AppIQ and Revit Technology. He was also chief operating officer at Concentra Corp.

   The Baltic and International Maritime Council (BIMCO) has elected Anastasios Papagiannopoulos, CEO of Common Progress, as president of BIMCO. Papagiannopoulos will serve a two-year term as president of the shipowners’ association. 
   BIMCO also elected Sadan Kaptanoglu, managing director of HI Kaptanoglu Shipping, as the council’s very first female president designate.
