Busan port interests seek U.S. investors

South Korea’s Busan Port Authority, Busan-Jinhae Free Economic Zone Association, and Korea International Trade Association will meet with business executives and investment firms in New York June 14 to encourage investment in their operations.

Busan is the second-largest city in Korea. The port handles 80 percent of Korea’s container volume and is ranked the third-largest transshipment hub for container traffic in the world. The Busan-Jinhae Free Economic Zone, which comprises 25,000 acres, was opened in March 2004.

“The construction of a new 30-berth container port, and developments including the opening of the Busan Science and Industrial Park, promise to further expand the city’s competitiveness as a world-class maritime hub and business center,” said Robert C. DiChiara, executive vice president of the World Trade Centers Association, in a statement.
