Port of Antwerp posts record freight volumes

The Belgian port experienced an increase in throughput from 2015 to 2016, driven by increased shipments of liquid bulk and containers.

The Port of Antwerp will close 2016 with an expected record throughput of over 214 million metric tons for the year, driven by increased shipments of liquid bulk and containers.
Container volumes rose above 10 million TEUs for the first time in the port’s history, the port said.
Total container volumes are expected to reach 10.06 million TEUs for the full year, a 4.2 percent increase from 2015. Antwerp has further expanded its market share in the Hamburg – Le Havre range, and has also managed to boost its position in the Far East trade over the past few years.
