ALLIED HOLDINGS TO CUT JOBS, RESTRUCTURE
Allied Holdings Inc. the parent company of seven subsidiaries focused on automotive logistics and transport services, said it will eliminate about 50 jobs, of 15 percent of its work force at its corporate office in Decatur, Ga.
Allied's action followed the elimination of nearly 60 jobs in the first half of 2001. Combined, the actions have cut one-fourth of its work force. In addition, approximately 1,100 drivers, mechanics, and yard personnel remain on lay-off.
In an attempt to restructure the management team, Hugh E. Sawyer, president and chief executive officer, will now manage 12 direct reports. Joseph W. Collier will resign as a member of the board of directors and as executive vice president, planning and development. Collier will remain with Allied as a special advisor to the president.
