USTR BEGINS REVIEW OF GSP

The U.S. Trade Representative has received 47 petitions in 2001 and 2002 to modify the list of imported products that are eligible for duty-free treatment under the country’s Generalized System of Preferences.

GSP provides duty-free treatment for certain goods from approved developing countries. Since the program expired on Oct. 1, 2001, and was not reauthorized until Aug. 6, 2002, USTR combined its review of petitions for 2001 and 2002.

The USTR will hold hearings regarding its GSP review on April 10-11 at the International Trade Commission’s office in Washington.

Modifications to the list of GSP-related articles will be announced by the USTR by June 30.
