EUROPE/WEST AFRICA CARRIERS RAISE LIBERIA SURCHARGE
Shipping lines of the Europe West Africa Trade Agreement said that they will increase the level of their Liberia surcharges.
The member lines of the conference have “no alternative but to increase the Liberia surcharge” on southbound shipments to 400 euro ($376) or '255 per TEU, effective June 19, the conference said.
“The difficulties in Liberia that gave rise to the imposition of a Liberia surcharge last year have worsened, leading to ever increasing costs for lines operating in Monrovia,” the conference added.
The Europe West Africa Trade Agreement carriers are Maersk Sealand, Nile Dutch Africa Line, P&O Nedlloyd, Safmarine and West Afrika Linien.
