TSA FOCUSING ON MULTIMODAL CARGO SECURITY
The Transportation Security Administration will devote more attention to multimodal cargo security, following seven months of intense focus on aviation security, John Magaw, TSA undersecretary, told a Senate Appropriations subcommittee.
Magaw said that Rear Adm. Richard Bennis, who started work Monday as the TSA's associate undersecretary of transportation for maritime and land security, is responsible for coordinating TSA activities regarding security measures at the nation’s seaports and land transportation assets.
Magaw stressed that the TSA will coordinate with other government agencies to enhance cargo security, through risk assessments.
“Cargo and transportation of goods are our immediate concern,” Magaw said. “We believe that we have to have a risk assessment — it has to be on a national level.”
