Maersk commences service to Bushehr, Iran

The port of Bushehr is capable of offering services for all containerized cargos including refrigerated products and provides an alternative to Bandar Abbas for shippers sending cargo to and from Iran, the Danish ocean carrier said in a statement.

Danish ocean carrier Maersk Line began calls to the port of Bushehr, Iran this month, giving shippers an alternative to Bandar Abbas when sending cargo to and from the Middle East nation, the company said in a statement.
While Bandar Abbas is located near the Strait of Hormuz, Bushehr is located further up the Persian Gulf and is a short distance to Qatar, Bahrain, as well as certain ports Saudi Arabia.
“Bushehr is the largest and most important port for transportation of commercial goods within the Bushehr province in Iran. With a total throughput of 7 million tons, this port is capable of offering services for all containerized cargos, and most significantly refrigerated products,” said Maersk.
The port features 400 reefer plugs and cold-storage warehouses with a total capacity of 5,000 tons for refrigerated and temperature-sensitive cargo.
Freight moving to and from Bushehr is transshipped through Jebel Ali in the United Arab Emirates.
