Grup TCB acquires Castellon terminal

Port terminal manager now has terminal operations in Castellon, Barcelona and Valencia on Spain’s Mediterranean coast.

   Port terminal manager Grup TCB has acquired theTerminal Polivalente de Castellón, S.A. (TCP) at the Casetellon Port in eastern Spain from current owners of the terminal, including majority shareholder Globalvia. According to a statement from the group, the transaction is expected to receive pending regulatory approval in the next few weeks.
   TPC handles approximately 80 percent of container throughput at Castellon port and will add to Grup TCB’s current terminal offerings at the Spanish ports of Barcelona (TCB) and Valencia (TCV). The terminal features 970 meters of berthing line, a maximum draught of 14 meters, and direct rail access.
   “From its origin in 2005 under the management of Globalvia and up to 2014, TPC made a leap of competitiveness when it recently obtained the ISO 9001 certification reaching  162,000 movements, 5% more than the previous year. By joining Grup TCB, the Castellon terminal will benefit from all the world-class know-how and state-of-the-art technology which the group has developed in recent years, allowing it to continue improving the service and productivity it provides to its customers,” Grup TCB said.
   Grup TCB CEO Xavier Soucheiron said, “With terminals in Barcelona, Castellon and Valencia and a commitment to intermodal transportation of goods by rail, we are able to offer import and export companies a global high quality logistics service to the whole southern European and Mediterranean markets. Our terminals also serve as connection hubs with Africa, the Gulf of Arabia and Asia.”
   Grup TCB operates a total of 10 maritime container terminals in Barcelona, Canaries, Valencia, Gijón, Paranaguá (Brazil), Progreso (Mexico), Buenaventura (Colombia), Bahía de Nemrut (Turkey), and Puerto Quetzal (Guatemala). The company also has two intermodal transport subsidiaries – TCB Railway Transport and TCV Railway Transport – and four railway terminals in Barcelona, Valencia, Gijon and Zaragoza. 
   In 2014, the company reported revenues of 450 million euros, handling over 3.8 million TEUs of containerized cargo at its terminals and moving more than 168,000 TEUs by rail.
