UNITED CARGO OPENS NEWARK FACILITY

United Cargo, a division of United Airlines Corp., has opened a new cargo facility at New International Airport, N.J.

The $15.3-million, 50,000-square-foot facility is located on 14 acres close to the flight line. It also includes a translucent roof system, 12 receiving and delivery docks, security system, 1,000 square feet of cold storage for fresh flowers, fruits and vegetables, and a diesel back-up power generator.

“We studied United’s existing cargo facilities in New York (JFK), Charlotte, Honolulu and San Francisco to ensure an optimum design,” said Marianne Daidone, general manager of United Cargo sales and services. “Without a doubt, the new Newark facility is one of the best new cargo transfer centers United has ever built.”

Last year, Newark International Airport handled 1.4 million tons of air cargo, with a value of $55 billion.
