MTMC CENTRALIZES OCEAN CARRIER PAYMENTS

The U.S. Military Traffic Management Command is centralizing payments to ocean carriers worldwide, through its Intermodal Cargo Analysis Division, Deployment Support Command, in Fort Eustis, Va.

The MTMC began the phased transfer of responsibility of worldwide payments over to the Deployment Support Command starting in April and is nearly completed.

The MTMC had been paying ocean carriers from three different regional offices. The 598th Transportation Group, Rotterdam, paid ocean carriers from an office in London. The 599th Transportation Group, Wheeler Army Air Field, Hawaii, made payments from an office in Yokohama Japan and ocean carrier payments for the continental United States were paid from the Deployment Support Command. The European and Pacific offices will close by Sept. 30.

The Intermodal Cargo Analysis Division's workload is expected to increase an average of 360 invoices monthly from Europe and 180 monthly from the Pacific.

“This is a part of the centralization and the continued streamlining efforts to make MTMC more effective and efficient,” said Rueben Bangan, of the MTMC headquarters' Resource Management Office.
