NOL departures continue as Eng leaves APL
Eng Aik Meng will step down as president of liner carrier APL at the end of August, the line's Singapore-based parent company NOL said Wednesday.

Eng will be replaced by APL veteran Ken Glenn, who is president of APL's North Asia region. NOL said Eng is pursuing opportunities outside the transportation industry.
The departure of Eng is the latest major shift in APL's executive team. In recent weeks, NOL Chief Executive Officer Ron Widdows and the U.S.-based APL veteran executive Bob Sappio announced their impending departures as well.
Widdows will retire at the end of the year, handing over the reins to NOL Executive Director Ng Yat Chung on Jan. 1. Sappio, head of Pan-American trades, is leaving at the end of July to stay in the San Francisco Bay Area. APL relocated its Americas headquarters from Oakland to Phoenix in 2009.
Glenn |
Glenn has been with APL since 2000, heading Asia/Europe trade initially before moving to roles in India and China the last five years.
Eng joined APL in 1993, holding positions in strategic planning and as head of intra-Asia trade, before leaving in 2007. He returned in 2008 as president of APL, filling the position Widdows vacated when he became CEO of NOL.
“We understand Aik Meng’s desire to begin a new phase in his career, and we thank him for his contributions to NOL,” Widdows said. “At the same time, we are excited to put APL under the direction of a veteran leader who has a very broad background in geographic and trade management and deep commercial skills developed over 32 years, the last 10 with NOL and APL.”
Glenn will manage APL’s worldwide container transportation business, which includes shipping and intermodal rail operations. He'll also have accountability for the company’s container terminals in the U.S., Asia and Europe. ' Eric Johnson
