CSX World Terminals appoints executives for Pusan project
Charlotte, N.C.-based CSX World Terminals has appointed two executives for its container terminal development project in Pusan, South Korea.
Gerard van den Heuvel has been appointed director, operations and John M. Elliott has been hired as commercial director.
Van den Heuvel began his new assignment in May, and Elliott will start at his new position July 19. In his new position, van den Heuvel will be responsible for development of the Pusan terminal and terminal operations once construction is complete. Elliott will be responsible for all commercial activities under the company’s management contract for Pusan Newport Co. Prior to joining CSX World Terminals, Elliott was terminal director for Maersk Sealand in Gioia Tauro, Italy, and held various terminal management positions with Sea-Land.
Pusan Newport Co. is a consortium of 13 companies, with the largest shares held by CSX World Terminals and Samsung Corp. (25 percent each). The government of South Korea awarded Pusan Newport Co. 50-year concession rights for the Pusan port expansion. Construction began in November 2001, and the first three berths are scheduled to be completed by the end of 2005.
