Swiss WorldCargo selects Mercator as IT partner
Swiss WorldCargo, the cargo division of Swiss International Air Lines, has chosen Mercator, the information technology division of the Emirates Group, to develop and implement a new suite of systems to replace its legacy platform CARIDO, due to expire in 2008.
Under terms of the agreement, Mercator will extend its cargo reservation and business management solution, Skychain, with additional modules to Swiss WorldCargo's specifications.
The new system, to be called Swiss Worx, will include interfaces to customs systems, and to industry distribution channels including GF-X. Swiss Worx will also support the monitoring of standard quality metrics specified by the Cargo 2000 group, in which Swiss WorldCargo is a member.
The development and implementation of Swiss Worx will be managed by a team of IT specialists from Mercator and Swiss International Air Lines, as well as business specialists from Swiss WorldCargo. It will go live in 2008.
'The choice of a new IT platform is probably the most critical decision yet in the young history of Swiss WorldCargo,' said Oliver Evans, Swiss WorldCargo's chief cargo officer. 'Swiss Worx will enable us to consolidate our position at the forefront of the industry in terms of innovation and focus on the needs of specific niches. We were not looking for a supplier but for a partner, and we believe we have found a best-in-class solution with Mercator, who have a proven track record of development and implementation.'
