Lykes leaves Central America Discussion Agreement

   CP Ships carrier Lykes Lines is leaving the Central America Discussion Agreement, a carrier agreement in the U.S./Central American trade, effective April 5.

   In an amendment filed with the U.S. Federal Maritime Commission, the agreement is also increasing the financial guarantees required of the members, adding a new section dealing with responsibility for civil penalties, and making other technical changes.

   Following Lykes’ resignation, members of the Central American Discussion Agreement are APL, Crowley Liner Services, Dole Ocean Cargo Express, Great White Fleet, King Ocean, Maersk Sealand, Trinity Shipping Line and Seaboard Marine.
