Hainan Airlines to convert 737s
Pemco Aviation Group said it will convert up to 10 Boeing 737-300 passenger aircraft to freighters for Hainan Airlines under a contract potentially worth $24 million.
Hainan placed a firm order for two aircraft conversions, with an option for eight more. The domestic Chinese carrier already has four B737-300 Quick Change aircraft in its fleet, according to Hainan’s Web site. A Quick Change plane is able to be switched between passenger and cargo configurations by sliding out the seat deck.
It is the second retrofit job Pemco has received in the last year from Chinese airlines. Late last year the Birmingham, Ala.-based company modified four 737s for China Southern Airlines.
