U.S. to help restore commercial aviation in Afghanistan

The U.S. Trade and Development Agency has awarded the post-Taliban Afghan government a $333,304 grant to develop a strategic business plan for Ariana Afhghan Airlines, a state-owned carrier.

Although hindered by a 25-year civil war, the airline continues to fly mainly on domestic routes.

The U.S.-funded business plan will include recommendations on the privatization of Ariana, management restructuring, and an analysis of market demand. Specialists with the Federal Aviation Administration will provide assistance with the business plan’s development.
