SHIPPERS, CARRIERS TO DISCUSS JONES ACT OPERATIONAL PROBLEMS
Shippers of the National Industrial Transportation League and Jones Act trade carriers will meet for the first time Thursday to discuss operational issues in the domestic offshore trades.
Issues to be discussed include a limited availability of ships in the trades, aging vessels and shipping rates.
Legislative issues will not be discussed at the closed meeting. “This is not a forum to discuss changes to the Jones Act,” said Peter Gatti, NIT League’s vice president of international relations. “We are breaking new ground in shipper-carrier cooperation.”
