ACL STARTS NORTH AMERICA/MED RO-RO TRANSSHIPMENT SERVICE
Atlantic Container Line is starting a weekly roll-on/roll-off service from the U.S. and Canada to the Mediterranean.
ACL said that the new service will initially be operated on a transshipment basis, in cooperation with Grimaldi, the transatlantic carrier’s majority shareholder.
Cargo will be transferred in Antwerp from ACL’s transatlantic ships to Grimaldi’s Euromed service. From Antwerp, Grimaldi’s Euromed ships will sail to the Mediterranean ports of Leghorn, Salerno, Piraeus, Izmir, Ashdod, Limassol, Alexandria, Savona and to the Portuguese Atlantic port of Setubal.
The transshipment service begins on Thursday (Nov. 1). “Eventually, it will be replaced by a direct service with ro-ro/containerships between Atlantic and Gulf ports and the eastern and western Mediterranean,” ACL said.
Earlier this year, ACL started a North America/West Africa transshipment service, also in cooperation with Grimaldi.
