SIEMENS SIGNS CONSOLIDATED FREIGHTWAYS FOR LTL, EXPEDITED SERVICES
Siemens Corp., the large electronics and electrical engineering company, has signed a two-year deal with Consolidated Freightways to provide less-than-truckload and expedited services in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
The contract, which runs through 2003, involves up to $40 million in shipments, CF said.
'We are looking to rely more heavily on PrimeTime freight bookings,' said Mike Brewer, corporate transportation manager at Siemens Shared Services LLC. 'In the past Siemens has relied on air freight, and we believe CF's expedited and time-definite services are available in most markets and have proven to be very dependable. In the end, we are confident supply chain costs will go don without service or transit times being impacted negatively.'
About one-third of Siemens' shipments usually involve expedited or time-definite deliveries. Siemens routinely ships freight from its more than 300 locations in North America, and will tap into CF's 300-terminal network covering metro areas in North America.
