Tanjung Pelepas port adds two container berths
Work has been completed on the first two berths of the “phase two” development at the port of Tanjung Pelepas, the fast-growing Malaysian container transshipment hub.
The berths provide a overall length of 720 meters (2,360 feet) and feature a water depth alongside of 19 meters (62 feet). The two berths “can handle the next generation of container vessel — the largest in the world and well in excess of 10,000-plus TEU capacity,” the port said.
With the berths now completed, land reclamation work on the remaining six berths of “phase two” has also been completed. The latest two berths are expected to raise the annual handling capacity of the port of Tanjung Pelepas from 4.5 million to 6 million TEUs.
