MITAGS to teach U.S. Coast Guard gas carrier course
The U.S. Coast Guard has awarded a five year contract to the Maritime Institute of Technology and Graduate Studies to teach its gas carrier course to deck officers.
MITAGS is the Linthicum Heights, Md.-based training facility for the International Organization of Masters, Mates and Pilots.
The two-week gas carrier course will cover thermodynamics, cargo chemistry, safety and health hazards associated with this type of transport. The course also uses a cargo control room simulator that replicates conditions found in a shipboard environment.
