POMTOC completes terminal upgrade

The Port of Miami Terminal Operating Co. has completed renovation of its terminal, doubling its throughput capacity.

   POMTOC, which runs the common user terminal at the Port of Miami, has invested $4.5 million in new terminal gates and communications infrastructure inside the terminal. There terminal's 16 gates are now unmanned, and new technology allows faster movement of trucks in and out of the terminal.

   POMTOC also has new communications towers that allow the efficient use of container tracking equipment, including handheld tracking devices. There is also a new fiber optic line that will improve communications capabilities. Security-related technology and communications will also improve with the changes.

   POMTOC anticipates being able to process 3,200 trucks in a 10-hour day, up from 1,600 trucks.
