Fort Schuyler honors alumni
An astronaut, the president of the largest Jones Act container carrier, and flight leader for the Navy’s Blue Angels are three graduates of the State University of New York Maritime College at Fort Schuyler who have selected as their Alumni of the Year for 2007.
The three men are:
' Scott J. Kelly, a 1987 graduate who was named a NASA Astronaut in 1996 and served as pilot on a Space Shuttle mission in 1999 and commander of mission ST-118 earlier this year. Kelly is also a commander in the Navy and was a both an F-14 Tomcat and F/A-18 Hornet pilot.
' John V. Keenan, a 1979 graduate who is president of Horizon Lines, the U.S.-flag carrier that operates containerships to Alaska, Hawaii, Guam, and Puerto Rico. He previously held executive posts at Sea-Land as well as sailing as an engineer earlier in his career.
' Kevin Mannix, a 1986 graduate who is also a commander in the Navy. He flew 20 combat missions during Operation Desert Storm and assumed command of the Blue Angels in 2006.
All three will be recognized at a celebration on Jan. 31 at Bridgewaters at South Street Seaport.
