Cedar American receives first of 600 grain covered hopper cars
Cedar American Rail Holdings Inc., operator of the Dakota, Minnesota & Eastern Railroad (DM&E) and the Iowa, Chicago & Eastern Railroad (IC&E), has received the first of 600 new grain covered hopper cars. Delivery of these new cars began this week and will continue until the end of the year. Cost of new rail cars exceeds $45 million.
Hamilton, Ontario-based National Steel Car Ltd. is building 400 of the new covered hopper cars, with the remaining 200 being built by Dallas-based Trinity Industries.
